Vintage Monday: Pyrex hostess casserole dish with lid

I love this cheery yellow casserole dish.  I've been unknowingly collecting the large and small bowls in yellow and red thinking they were chip bowls.  When I saw this one with the lid I totally flipped (haha get it?) and snapped it up.  More about these bowls here on Pyrex Love. 

Vintage Monday: Heart Pyrex

Another estate sale score.  At most sales, I usually take a turn at the jewelry and kitchen first before heading to the other rooms.  This time, I was in the midst of rummaging through a closet when BK came in and said: "so you didn't want the heart pyrex?"   I high tailed it out of there and snagged this dish just in time.  Nice job, eagle eye!

Vintage Monday: Pyrex measuring cup

Pyrex measuring cups are a bit of an addiction for me.  Once at an estate sale, BK found and held on to a large 8 cup pyrex measuring bowl for me and in that instant I fell a bit more in love with him--"yes! this man gets me!", I thought.   This wee one was also a product of an estate sale.  It's currently holding fresh thyme in the fridge for our ham and shallot pizza that's on the menu this week!

Found this gem at a local estate sale.  It's a bit scratched up but the inside is pristine.  I really love the pattern--it's a bit more somber than the usual cheerful Pyrex prints but somehow that works.

Found this great fridgie at an estate sale.  I was holding on to it, debating, when suddenly they announced that everything was 50% off.  I grabbed some lace curtains on my way to the register and was done for the day!

Vintage Monday: Pyrex Design Deco

These casserole bowls were a birthday present from my lovely sister in law.  You can never go wrong with Pyrex as a gift! :)  According to Pyrex Love, these are the orange and gold mixer set casseroles.  Common names for this pattern include Design Deco, Arches, Fishscale, and Art Deco.  I've already used them twice--they are the perfect print--thanks L!!

Vintage Monday: Pyrex primary color mixing bowls

In B's family, a person can ask to "put his/her name" on an item that they want later.  For example, B's name is on the grandfather clock in his dad's den (not by his choice though), his sister has her name on the rest of the items in the house, and his grandma has a quilt with my name on it.  Well, a few months ago, Grandma L was asking me if there was anything else I was looking for (my response being what am I *not* looking for?) and mentioned that she had some Pyrex mixing bowls but that her other grandson Mark had his name on them.

I didn't think much about it then because of course he's her grandson, he probably has great memories helping his grandma cook/bake with them and that they are special to him.  In that next month, I noticed more and more posts on pyrex collective about the much sought after primary colored mixing bowl set that piqued my interest.  I wondered if those were the ones that Grandma L indeed had and the next time we were in Missouri, I thought I'd ask to see them.  Well imagine my surprise when grandma told me that grubby hands Mark had already taken them after she mentioned that I had asked about them!  I would like to take this opportunity now to formally state that I did not have designs on these bowls, nor thought of trying to replace them with another set, spirit them away, or feign innocence when asked why I had them in my possession.  Ok maybe I did formulate all those plans for just a bit but I didn't carry any of them out!  (B wouldn't help)

So anyways, as you can see from these pictures, I actually do now own a set of primary color mixing bowls, not by theft or sleight of hand.  But rather through my favorite way of rummaging through the antique mall.  These came from the same little shop as my little fridgies and now sit side by side in my Pyrex dedicated cabinet!

Vintage Monday: Primary colors Pyrex refrigerator set

I love these little Pyrex refrigerator sets with the solid color stack-able bottoms and clear glass lids.  On our last trip to the antique mall, I happened upon this set and was instantly smitten.  I also loved the 40% off everything sign in the little shop!  This set actually came with a small yellow #501 which was not part of the original set.  Thankfully I just so happened to have a small red #501 at home, waiting to be reunited with its set!  I plan on baking little cobblers and treats in these and love the ease of being able to put the glass lids on for quick and easy storage!

I just realized that this post contains a lot of exclamation points and the use of the word "love"--can you tell I'm Pyrex-obsessed?

Vintage Monday: Fiesta time!

Remember my cabinet-full of vintage Fiesta ware?  Well, I've just exponentially added to the collection!  B and I went to a magical estate sale this past weekend and they had such a great assortment of vintage Fiesta  at amazingly low prices that I wanted to do a little dance right then and there. 

I managed to limit (ha!) myself to: an original red comport dish, egg cup, chop plates, and salt shaker, another chop plate in cobalt blue, a green sugar jar with lid, and these amazing stacked refrigerator dishes from the Fiesta Kitchen Kraft line.

I told B that this was most definitely IT for now, but after more research I think I might be keeping an eye out for a relish tray, mixing bowls, water pitcher, and covered casseroles.  But that's IT after that...really...

Wishlist Wednesday: Pyrex

Pyrex was first introduced in 1915 and since then a myriad of fun colorful designs have been well used and loved in households around the world.  Older Pyrex and European Pyrex are made of borosilicate glass which has a high thermal resistance and is often used in the manufacture of laboratory ware.  Newer Pyrex is made of a different and less heat resistant glass (hence the stories of "exploding pyrex").  I tend to favor the older ones, but that's because there are so many gorgeous patterns out there to collect!

It seems I am not the only one who loves Pyrex.  Pyrexlove and a flickr group dedicated exclusively to Pyrex are a great resource in helping to identify patterns and so fun to browse through pictures as well.

Vintage Monday: Fire King polka dot mixing bowls

A while ago, I got an email from the lovely R over at The Reluctant Floridan that said "Do you collect Fire King?"

Several thoughts ran through my mind:

• "Do I love cake?"
• "Do I enjoy afternoon naps?"
• "Do I love snuggling my puppies?"
• "Do I like rummaging through thrift shops?"
• "Do I want to eat dessert first?"

All of these questions (as well as R's original one) can be answered with a resounding YES!

So through R's generosity and the post office, these beauties made their way from Florida to Texas and now have a new home in my kitchen.  I love love Pyrex and am especially enamored by this polka dot pattern.  For this picture I dressed the bowls up with some fresh corn and blueberries to celebrate summer.  Thank you so much R!
